A totally new active suspension is available for the new GLS in the guise of E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. This incorporates the camera-based lane recognition system ROAD SURFACE SCAN and the CURVE active curve inclination function, and is able to assess the driving situation, speed and load. Damping and level control are automatically adjusted for each wheel accordingly. For excellent ride comfort and outstanding stability – on- and off-road alike.

With 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the differential lock and special off-road drive programs, the new GLS is equally impressive in both easy and difficult terrain. The torque on demand (single-speed) transfer case with fully variable torque distribution to the front and rear axle boosts traction on grass, gravel and easy off-road terrain for enhanced driving safety. In addition, you can call up an animation of the driving situation on the media display to view the gradient or inclination angle, for example.

The Off-Road Engineering Package offers even better off-road capability at the push of a button. The modified drivetrain characteristics with fully variable all-wheel drive including torque on demand (double-speed) and low range enable maximum traction on unfirm terrain. It additionally features off-road drive programs for easy and difficult terrain and an extended underguard to provide the underbody with the best possible protection in off-road terrain and to keep dirt and moisture away from the engine compartment.

It takes just two little words from you - "Hey, Mercedes" - to activate the intelligent natural-speech LINGUATRONIC voice control system, which understands almost every word you speak and can even handle indirect language. The air conditioning will respond to "I feel cold" by setting a higher temperature, for example.

The new GLS offers 2-way In-Car Communication voice amplification exclusively in combination with a Burmester® sound system. All speech is picked up by microphones and output in all directions to maximum effect via the speakers. This makes conversing across all rows of seats quite effortless.

Augmented Reality Video helps you to cope better in complex traffic situations. The optionally available system films the area around the moving vehicle with a camera, combines the live images with practical virtual traffic information and presents everything clearly on the media display.

The optional head-up display allows you to keep your eye on all important information at all times in the new GLS. This is made possible by projecting a roughly 24 x 8 cm image into your natural field of vision which appears to hover around two metres above the bonnet. This means your attention remains focussed on the traffic at all times.

The optional MBUX Rear Seat Entertainment System allows you to put together your very own travel programme in the second row, too. Two high-resolution touchscreens feature here for the first time, enabling rear passengers to enjoy films and music, surf the web, use the telephone or control comfort settings.
