Luxury Design We create luxury anew again and again. Then, now and for the future. The aim of our design philosophy is to create clear forms and sensual surfaces that stage high-tech and at the same time arouse emotions. In this way, we not only create "the world's most desirable cars", we also develop the design-strategic foundations for the luxurious identity of Mercedes-Benz and its sub-brands and translate them into a concrete aesthetic. This is how we create timeless icons, such as the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, which already shaped traditional luxury back then. We are transforming this into the modern age with products such as the S-Class and the EQS.

"Design is essential for luxury brands."

"Luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz constantly redefine luxury to create the extraordinary. We call this the X-Factor, because it's the only way we manage to maintain our distinctive style of sensual clarity and create desire!"

Gorden Wagener - Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group.

"Often our customers fulfil a long-awaited dream when they purchase a Mercedes-Benz."

Concept CLA

At IAA Mobility 2023, Mercedes-Benz demonstrated its progress across the entire value chain by showcasing its Concept CLA Class. The close-to-production concept provides an insight into the upcoming family of vehicles based on the Mercedes‑Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) and its in-house operating system MB.OS. It is the first model range designed from scratch to put the company’s Ambition 2039 on the road, whereby it aims to achieve net carbon-neutrality along the entire value chain in its fleet of new vehicles in 2039. The Concept CLA Class also benefits from the company’s “Design for Environment” and “Design for Circularity”. Design for environment starts at the very earliest stages of product development. All materials and processes are examined for more sustainable options. Design for circularity means reducing resource consumption through circular material cycles, more efficient processes, and an increasing share of recycled materials.

Vision One-Eleven

This futuristic car intended to showcase our technology and design follows in the footsteps of the legendary C111 experimental vehicles produced by Mercedes-Benz in the 1970s. The vehicle has an athletic, very flat profile thanks to its one-bow design, and for the first time ever, a sports car’s interior design has the look and feel of a lounge.

Technology highlights include a new battery concept featuring high-performance liquid-cooled cylindrical cells with a novel cell chemistry.

Aside from that, the Vision One-Eleven features two exceptionally powerful and advanced axial-flux motors from YASA. This engine is significantly more compact and lighter and, at the same time, more powerful than comparable radial engines.

Project Mondo G

An unusual collaboration between a fashion house and a vehicle manufacturer that at the same time shows the many parallels between both partners: The G-Class and the bomber jackets that Moncler designed for the first time around 70 years ago as robust outdoor jackets for cold-weather workers stand for protection against adverse external conditions, a pioneering spirit and quality. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz and Moncler are united by innovation, a striking design language and the courage to collaborate with partners outside their own industries.

With the collaboration, Mercedes-Benz would like to create a unique brand experience and also come into contact with people from the worlds of art, culture and lifestyle who normally would not be intensively involved with motor vehicles.

Project MAYBACH

The exclusive touring vehicle for on- and off-road adventures shows how closeness to nature and a love of discovery can be combined with luxury. Our designers had broken new, very creative ground in the design of luxury automobiles with the Virgil Abloh team in the process. In doing so, they deliberately called into question everything that had hitherto generally applied to Mercedes-Maybach. Their objective: to stimulate discussion about future trends and forms.

Vision AMG

With the extraordinary design of the Vision AMG, Gorden Wagener and his team set the visual direction and show how AMG wants to transfer its performance DNA into the future from 2025 onwards. The proportions of the one-off vehicle: radical and powerful. The surfaces: full and seamlessly flowing - like a monolithic sculpture. At the same time, the Vision AMG surprises with progressive high-tech elements such as the illuminated, digital radiator grille.

Vision EQXX

Drive 1,000 kilometres on a single battery charge: the VISION EQXX overcomes previous technological barriers, thanks to its newly developed battery, for example. It can store almost the same amount of energy as the battery of the EQS, although it is 50 percent smaller and 30 percent lighter. With this and numerous other innovations, the research prototype demonstrates how the efficiency and range of electric vehicles can be increased when new ways of thinking and interdisciplinary teamwork are incorporated into development. The Vision EQXX is the most efficient electric vehicle ever built by Mercedes-Benz.

Concept EQG

An exciting preview of the all-electric version of the legendary all-terrain model series: With the Concept EQG, we present the near-production study of an all-electric model variant of our utilitarian off-road icon. Visually, the concept car combines the unmistakably striking look of the G-Class with selected design elements typical of our all-electric models as contrasting highlights.

The 4x4 qualities of the "G", which have always set the highest standard, will not only find their way into the age of electric mobility, but will be developed even further in some areas. The Concept EQG thus offers a promising preview of what a Mercedes-Benz G-Class with battery-electric drive will be capable of.

Project Geländewagen

From a 4x4 to a Landaulet, the G-Class has had many incarnations to date, but never a race car – until now. The finished design simultaneously never forgets its point of origin, and captures the experience of a racing car. The design process was inspired by Wagener and Abloh owning and experiencing the G-Class first hand and identifying opportunities for maximizing its Mercedes-AMG attitude. Together they considered how to make the viewer look at Mercedes-Benz designs with a fresh perspective, while driving luxury away from a polished and flawless aesthetic to something raw, natural and altogether more honest.

Vision EQ Silver Arrow The show car’s body structure is made of carbon fibre. The multiple layers of paintwork in alubeam silver appear like liquid metal over the top. This concept represents the design polar opposites of “hot” and “cool”. Functional attachment parts made of carbon fibre such as the front splitter epitomise the cool and rational aspect of this philosophy. The same applies to the front trim designed as a display, as well as the continuous lighting strip at the front. The side skirts also feature a lighting strip and the large, recessed EQ lettering in front of the rear wheels is illuminated blue as is characteristic of the brand. Button
Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury The concept vehicle not only embodies the Mercedes-Maybach design language, it also reflects the traditional brand values while continuing the successful Mercedes-Maybach story.. The show car also merges influences from the Western and Far Eastern hemispheres to deliver an appealing automotive cultural dialogue. For instance, use is made of “Magic Wood”, ebony, which is traditional in Chinese furniture design. The same motif is also underlined by the combination of SUV and notchback saloon. Button
VISION EQS The VISION EQS show car is an outlook on the future of Mercedes-Benz. Because two things are timeless: the need for mobility and the need for luxury. Plus an inner uncertainty about what will come next.

The VISION EQS is a first milestone on the way to a CO₂-neutral mobility of the future. Mercedes-Benz has always stood for technical innovation, responsibility and fascination. And sustainability is now another integral component of the brand philosophy. The show car already meets these aspirations today, and gives an outlook on the future large, electric saloons by the brand.
